Dr. Allen Hershkowitz is the co-founder and President of the Green Sports Alliance, an international coalition of hundreds of sports teams, leagues and venues committed to using the market and cultural influence of the sports industry to protect the conditions that make life on Earth possible. Dr. Hershkowitz served as a Senior Scientist at the Natural Resources Defense Council for 26 years, between 1988 and 2014, helping to grow NRDC into one of the most influential and largest environmental organizations in the world. In 2015 Sports Business Journal listed Dr. Hershkowitz as one of the 50 Most Influential People in Sports Business, stating, “he serves as the point person and de facto “godfather” on green initiatives throughout sports…at the highest levels of the industry.” Dr. Hershkowitz has appeared often on CNN, ABC, NBC, CBS and NPR news, and has appeared in television and radio shows in more than fifty countries including “60 Minutes,” “20/20,” “Larry King Live,” Crossfire,” “CBS Evening News with Dan Rather,” “Good Morning America,” “CBS This Morning,” “ABC Evening News,” “CNN Business News,” “CNN Evening News,” CNBC and National Public Radio. He is regularly quoted in newspapers and journals, including The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, USA Today, Time, Newsweek, Rolling Stone, Business Week, Forbes and Fortune, as well as the trade press. A native of New York, Dr. Hershkowitz received his Ph.D. in political economics, specializing in energy resources economics, from the City University of New York Graduate School in 1986. He earned a M. Phil. In political economics in 1982, a B.A. (cum laude) from the City College of New York in 1978 and a Certificat D’assiduite from the University of Grenoble in 1975. He shares his time between his home in New York State and San Francisco and is the father of three children.
