Healthcare Case Studies
Methodist Hospital
This prominent Houston Hospital has six large holding tanks for sewage. Sewage is lifted into the sanitary municipal waste water system by ejector pit pumps.
The contaminated and foul air was flowing from the large sewer pit room into the basement and picked up by various return ducts, and consequentially circulating into the main hospital ventilation system.
The air contained hydrogen sulfide, mercaptans, and methane, and the humidity was quite high.

The air contained hydrogen sulfide, mercaptans, and methane, and the humidity was quite high.
ACTION PLAN
AtmosAir was contracted to solve the problem through bipolar ionization and negatively pressurizing the pit room slightly.
AtmosAir used 3 units, which allowed pit room air to be cleaned and recycled.

RESULTS
The treatment was successful and has been in operation for over five years.
Virginia Commonwealth University Health
VCU Health was experiencing indoor air quality issues caused by helicopters landing on the rooftop area.
ACTION PLAN
AtmosAir was installed in the Intensive Care Unit and Respiratory areas of the medical campus.
RESULTS
AtmosAir was able to reduce VOCs caused by the helicopter’s diesel fumes by 30%.
No IAQ issues have been reported since the installation.
No IAQ issues have been reported since the installation.
Seattle Children’s Hospital
The hospital was forced to close its 14 main operating rooms after tests revealed traces of Aspergillus mold in several operating rooms and equipment storage rooms.
ACTION PLAN
AtmosAir continuous air quality treatment and monitoring was installed.
Other AHU modifications were made for building health.
RESULTS
The result was extremely positive with operating rooms being reopened and mold measured at 0 CFU.
Stamford Health System
Tully Health Center
Tully Health Center’s locker room struggled with mold and odor issues.
Baseline testing was done.
ACTION PLAN
AtmosAir was installed and post-installation testing was done.
Testing confirmed reductions in mold spores.
RESULTS
Greater than 95% of ascospores, penicillium, and aspergillus-type spores were reduced.
